Landscapes of Utah
Grade

4th Grade
Objectives:
The students will create landscapes
found in Utah using construction paper to make a collage that represents their
favorite places in Utah.
The students will demonstrate knowledge
of how to create the illusion of perspective in their collage by utilizing
techniques such as overlapping, size, and vanishing points to depict the
various landscapes found in Utah.
Materials
Needed:
·
Construction
paper (or magazines)
·
Scissors
·
Glue (sticks are
preferable)
·
Reference photos
of Utah’s landscapes
Procedure:
·
Review the
landscapes of Utah
·
Talk about
creating perspective using overlapping, size, and vanishing points
·
Demonstrate or
give examples of how to use overlapping, size, and vanishing points
·
Explain the task
of creating landscapes by demonstrating choosing paper, cutting shapes, and
placing shapes on background.
·
Review safety
with regards to scissors and glue
·
Have the children
select a landscape that they want to create
·
Have the children
select the paper they wish to use, reminding them to not waste any
·
Hand out scissors
and glue sticks
·
Allow the
children to work on their landscapes, walking around and helping as needed
Assessment:
·
Did the student
use overlapping to show perspective?
·
Did the student
use size to show perspective?
·
Did the student
create a landscape that could be found in Utah?
Integration:
During this lesson you could also talk
about what animals are found in the landscapes the children will be depicting.
Along with animals, you may discuss
climate, seasons, and the people found in those areas.
